Interview with the star of "Moving Labyrinth 2": The sequel almost never stopped running.
Interview with Ki Hong Lee and Thomas Sangster
Special feature of 1905 film network In recent years, the audience’s freshness to the dystopian sci-fi theme of teenagers has been consumed a lot. People remember such successful cases and have not forgotten such works with unsatisfactory word-of-mouth box office. The first film, which is also based on the youth novel, was released only last year. Before the release, some people questioned whether it would become short-lived cannon fodder, but as a result, the audience happily drank this "market special tune", and in the sequel, the style characteristics of this series of films were more clear.
Recently, Thomas Sangster and Ki Hong Lee, two "small fresh meats" in "Moving Labyrinth 2", came to China to build momentum for the film and accepted an exclusive interview with 1905 Film Network. Thomas from Britain and Ki Hong Lee, a Korean-American actor, play Newt and Mino respectively. For the return, the two stars are very happy. "Fortunately, the audience liked the first movie, which gave us the opportunity to return to shoot the second one." Compared with the single scene of maze and Woods in the first film, in Moving Labyrinth 2, they encountered more difficult challenges, waiting for them is the scorched earth desert ravaged by viruses.
"Moving Maze 2" was shot in Albuquerque. Thomas revealed that the actors had collective training in the desert before shooting, in order to adapt to the local altitude and environment, and to cultivate the tacit understanding between groups again. Talking about the characteristics of Moving Maze 2, Thomas concluded, "We were running from the beginning to the end of this movie. If we were not running, we were panting. Basically, we never stopped. It really took a lot of effort."
The following is an interview record.:
1905 Movie Network: How does it feel to return to the Moving Maze series?
Thomas Sangster: I feel great. We had a very happy time when shooting the first film, met many great people and became friends with them since then. Fortunately, the film is very good, and the audience likes and enjoys the story, so we have the opportunity to return to shoot the second film, meet our friends again and continue our story. Now we have come to China to promote, and then we will go to different places, which is so cool.
Ki Hong Lee: I feel so cool, hahaha.
1905 Movie Network: What changes have been made in your roles in this film?
Ki Hong Lee: In the second movie, we were put in a brand-new environment, surrounded by scorched desert and zombies ready to catch up with us at any time, so this time we ran more. This movie tells a story about how to survive. We try to figure out where to go and who to trust. Of course, many interesting characters were added along the way, and some excellent actors performed these new roles. In short, this is a new test for us and a new journey for the team.
1905 Movie Network: There are many action scenes in the film. What training did you do?
Thomas Sangster: Yes, we trained about a week or two before shooting, practicing martial arts and parkour with the coach, and running in the desert. This is mainly to help us get used to exercising at that altitude and environment, running up and down, and also to training together and working as a team again, which is very helpful to us.
1905 Movie Network: Is training difficult for you?
Thomas Sangster: Well, it’s really difficult. It’s an intense training for us. Because we were running from the beginning to the end of this movie, if we weren’t running, we were panting between runs, or we went to another place to continue running, which basically didn’t stop and took a lot of effort.
1905 Movie Network: What impressed you the most in the film?
Ki Hong Lee: I liked the part where we were hung upside down. I was deeply impressed. The scene was very challenging, because when you were hung upside down for a long time, you were really uncomfortable. But when I saw the film, I was really glad that we experienced that pain. When you saw it, you would know that the effect was really great and the pain was worth it.
1905 Movie Network: How to understand the feelings of Thomas and Mino in the film? It seems that his feelings for the heroine are not that deep..
Ki Hong Lee: Haha, there is definitely brotherhood between them. There are many boys in the movie, all of whom are our good brothers. We become friends through role understanding, and also outside of work, so it is a natural expression in front of the camera.
1905 Movie Network: This movie is about growth and resistance. What do you think it will bring to the audience?
Thomas Sangster: I hope our audience can see this interesting adventure story and enjoy the spectacular scenes in the movie. At the same time, I also hope that they can find something that can be associated with themselves in the characters and think about whether they are in the same environment. Of course, I hope that in the real world, we will not be chased by zombies. We try our best to make the characters resonate with the audience.
1905 Movie Network: Thomas is an "old opera bone". After acting for so many years, what kind of works are you most looking forward to receiving now?
Thomas Sangster: I’m looking forward to a good story. What’s important is whether the character resonates with me.
1905 Movie Network: Some fans want you to return to Doctor Who. Is it possible?
Thomas Sangster: Of course, it was an interesting play. The behind-the-scenes team was very strong and they wrote a great script. This play is a history, but it’s great in short. As an Englishman, I like it very much.
